The successor to the CZ 805 BREN, this modernized model incorporates feedback from military users and offers an effective, reliable and adaptable solution to the operational needs of the 21st century. Available in a range of calibers and barrel lengths, the CZ BREN 2 is a serious alternative to the best-known Western platforms.

History and development

Genesis of the project

The CZ 805 BREN, the first of its kind, was introduced in the 2010s to equip the Czech army. Although technologically advanced, this first model suffered from certain shortcomings in terms of weight, ergonomics and modularity. CZ then decided to design a radically improved version: the CZ BREN 2, officially launched in 2015.

BREN 2 objective

The objective was clear: to create a lighter, more intuitive and more easily configurable rifle. The BREN 2 had to be able to be quickly adapted to different calibers (5.56×45 mm NATO, 7.62×39 mm and more recently 300 Blackout) and different types of intervention (urban, long-distance, on-board use, etc.).

The result is a compact, well-balanced rifle perfectly adapted to NATO standards, while remaining true to Czech engineering expertise.

Technical specifications

Element

Detail

Model

CZ BREN 2

Available calibres

5.56×45 mm NATO / 7.62×39 mm / .300 BLK

Weight (without charger)

~3.25 kg (depending on version)

Barrel lengths

8″, 11″, 14″, 16″ (modular)

Overall length

Variable, with stock folded or extended

Capacity

30 shots (STANAG or AK magazine)

Firing system

Gas with short-stroke piston

Materials

Aeronautical aluminum, polymer

Special features

Folding, ambidextrous, full rail stock

Ergonomics and modularity

The CZ BREN 2 has been designed to maximize maneuverability and compatibility:

Ambidextrous controls: reversible cocking lever, selector on both sides, ambi eject button.

Folding and telescopic stock: for use in confined spaces while maintaining stability.

Complete Picatinny rail: top and sides for mounting optics, lights or handles.

Interchangeable barrel: depending on the version, easy to change to suit the mission.

Charger compatibility: accepts STANAG (M4) chargers for 5.56 models, or AK for the 7.62×39.

The rifle retains excellent accuracy thanks to its adjustable gas piston system, limiting fouling and guaranteeing long life.

Comparison with other modern assault rifles

Model

Ratings

Type of operation

CZ BREN 2

5,56 / 7,62

Gas piston, folding stock

FN SCAR-L

5,56

Gas piston, folding stock

HK416

5,56

Gas piston, AR-15 style

Compared with the SCAR-L or HK416, the CZ BREN 2 offers better accessibility, more intuitive ergonomics, and remains competitively priced.
