Designed by Yisrael Galil, the original rifle was inspired by the mechanics of the Soviet AK-47 and the Finnish RK-62, while adopting the 5.56 mm NATO ammunition. The first deliveries to IDF units took place in 1974.

In 2009, IWI presented the Galil ACE — for Advanced Combat Enhancement — a complete redesign: a high-strength polymer chassis, Picatinny rails on the handguard, a foldable telescopic stock and availability in three families of calibers.

Technical Specifications

Feature

Specification

Official designation

Galil ACE (Advanced Combat Enhancement)

Country of Origin

Israel

Manufacturer

Israel Weapon Industries (IWI)

Year of presentation

2009

Available calibers

5.56×45 mm NATO / 7.62×39 mm M43 / 7.62×51 mm NATO

Automatic action

, piston gas borrowing

Semi-Automatic / Automatic

Firing Modes

Length (ACE 22)

770–850 mm

Barrel length (ACE 22)

460 mm

Empty weight (ACE 21)

2.9 kg

Empty weight (ACE 22)

3.3 kg

Magazine capacity

20 or 35 rounds

Rate of fire (5.56 mm)

700 rounds/min

Rate of fire (7.62 mm)

650 rounds/min

Effective range

450–600 m

Operation and Technical Particularities

The Galil ACE retains the long-piston gas borrowing system inherited from the AK/Galil family, renowned for its extreme reliability. The handguard incorporates four-sided MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails for lamps, sights and handles. The six-position telescopic stock can be folded to the left for transport, and the fire selector is ambidextrous.

Variants and Versions

The Galil ACE is available in seven models: ACE 21 (compact 5.56 mm, 2.9 kg), ACE 22 (standard 5.56 mm, 3.3 kg), ACE 23 (long 5.56 mm), ACE 31 and ACE 32 (7.62×39 mm M43, 650 rounds/min), ACE 52 and ACE 53 (7.62×51 mm NATO, designated gunner, 3.6–3.7 kg).

Users and Armed Forces

Colombia is the main user, producing the ACE 21/22/23 under license from Indumil between 2010 and 2025 for its armed forces. Guatemala and several Latin American nations have also adopted various variants. IWI continues to offer the Galil ACE for export as a modern alternative to the AK and M16/M4 platforms.

Civil Possession in Switzerland

In Switzerland, semi-automatic versions of the Galil ACE may be available from specialist gunsmiths. In accordance with the Federal Weapons Act (Arms Act), the acquisition requires a cantonal licence. The conditions: be at least 18 years of age, not be under guardianship and not present a reason for refusal within the meaning of Art. 8 para. 2 Arms Act. Automatic versions require an exceptional cantonal permit.

Conclusion

The Galil ACE represents the culmination of fifty years of evolution of the Galil family. Its reliability, modularity and availability in several calibers make it a serious competitor in the global market, especially in regions where the AK platform is already established.

["post-4556","wiki","type-wiki","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
