The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro is an open-type red dot micro (reflex sight), designed and manufactured by the American company Leupold & Stevens, Inc. Introduced to the market in 2014, it is a compact optic intended mainly for rifle shooting in addition to a scope, big game hunting, precision sport shooting and mounting on semi-automatic pistols compatible with the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro footprint. Waterproof and known for the sharpness of its dot, it has become a reference in its category.
Leupold & Stevens is an American company founded in 1907 in Portland, Oregon, historically specializing in surveying instruments before becoming one of the world leaders in gun optics during the twentieth century. The DeltaPoint Pro is the successor to the original DeltaPoint launched a few years earlier, from which it takes the philosophy — an open, lightweight DSLR — by significantly improving body strength, battery life and optical quality.
Designed and assembled in the U.S. at the Leupold plant in Beaverton, Oregon, the DeltaPoint Pro meets MIL-STD-810G requirements, a U.S. standard for military environmental testing. Optics have gone through the shock, vibration, immersion and thermal variation test cycles that have established the brand’s reputation for reliability. Several U.S. police units and special forces have adopted it to equip pistols and assault rifles.

The DeltaPoint Pro uses the optical principle of reflex sight: a light-emitting diode (LED) projects a point of light onto a treated lens that reflects it back to the shooter’s eye, giving the illusion of an infinitely floating reticle. The absence of parallax beyond a few meters allows a rapid shot, with both eyes open, without the need to precisely center the eye behind the optics.
The main innovation of the DeltaPoint Pro is its 7075-T6 aluminum housing reinforced by a stainless steel upper frame that protects the reflective lens from side impacts — a traditional weak point of open reflex sights. The automatic brightness adjustment (Motion Sensor Technology) continuously adjusts to the ambient light and deactivates the LED after five minutes of immobility to save battery. The battery compartment is accessible from the top of the lens, allowing the CR2032 to be changed without removing the viewfinder from its mount.
Two reticles are available in the catalogue: a round point of 2.5 MOA intended for precision shooting, and an inverted triangle of 7.5 MOA more visible in dynamic use or hunting. The proprietary DeltaPoint Pro footprint has become an industry standard adopted by Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Kimber and other manufacturers for their Optic-Ready versions.
Several versions of the DeltaPoint Pro have been marketed since 2014. The original 2.5 MOA model remains the most common version for precision shooting and pistol use. The 7.5 MOA version with triangle reticle targets big game hunters and action pistol shooters. Leupold also offers the DeltaPoint Pro NV variant, compatible with night vision devices, which offers two brightness levels suitable for Generation 3 devices. The DeltaPoint Micro, released in 2020, takes a similar philosophy in an even more compact and closed format, specifically dedicated to Glock and Smith & Wesson M&P pistols.
The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro equips several police and special forces units in the United States, including the tactical units of many sheriffs in the Midwest and the American West. It is in the catalog of optional equipment offered by several American military armories for service pistols. In the civilian sector, it is massively used by IDPA and USPSA shooters, deer and wild boar hunters armed with a lever or semi-automatic rifle, as well as by dynamic sport shooters in Europe and North America.
In Switzerland, the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro is available for purchase from specialist gunsmiths and optical dealers. As a weapon accessory (optical sight), its free sale is not restricted by the Federal Weapons Act (Arms Act), unlike silencers or laser sights, which are subject to a licence. However, the purchaser must legally possess the weapon on which he wishes to mount the optics, in accordance with the provisions of the Arms Acquisition Permit for submitted firearms. Mounting on a legally owned pistol or semi-automatic rifle does not change the status of the weapon and does not require any special administrative procedure with the cantonal authorities.
The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro has established itself as a benchmark in the category of open red dot micro viewfinders thanks to its robust construction, generous battery life and clear focus. Its mounting footprint has become an industry standard, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of Optic-Ready guns. Whether mounted on a service pistol, a hunting rifle, or a dynamic shotgun, it continues to embody American optical craftsmanship and remains a premium choice for the discerning shooter.
